Not all heroes don capes, as some of them actually wear lab gown and treat dogs. Veterinarians are heroes that make sure our pets are in good shape. Fortunately, somebody comes along and shows these heroes with a profound sense of appreciation and gratitude.

David MacNeil expressed his thanks to the vets who saved Scout, his seven-year-old Golden Retriever, from cancer. And he did it with a six million-dollar worth of Superbowl ad.

Surprising Scout’s heroes

David thanked the vets who helped his dog recover from cancer through an ad that would be seen by millions of people. The best part of it was that he encouraged viewers to donate to the vets who saved Scout. He said that they wanted to use the biggest possible stage to highlight Scout’s story and some incredible breakthroughs.

The funds raised from the said commercial would support the research at the heroes’ vet school. These would also be used to buy new equipment.

Mark Markel, the dean of the University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine, said that this was an opportunity for veterinary medicine worldwide. He explained that so much of what was known globally about the best way to diagnose and treat diseases, such as cancer, stemmed from veterinary medicine. They were also thrilled to share with Super Bowl viewers how their profession benefited animals and humans, too.

Scout’s story of survival

In the summer of 2019, Scout collapsed and was diagnosed with cancer. Initially, he was only given a month to live. David, the founder and CEO of WeatherTech, a car accessories company, couldn’t accept Scout’s fate.

He decided to help Scout despite the dog having a one percent chance of survival. David said that he would not put his dog down – there was absolutely no way!

So what he did was to take Scout to the University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine. There, Scout received chemotherapy and radiation.

After the treatments, Scout’s tumor was almost entirely gone.
