Cairo, a Shiba Inu, spent the first three years of his life being the only fur baby in his home. He was spoiled-rotten because he deserved to be. But then, Sultan, a British Shorthair, came and turned his life upside down.

To accommodate both Cairo and Sultan, their dad, Eric, divided their home into two sections. Each of them had their own space but they still saw and smelled each other across the room. The barrier did not completely keep them from reaching one another and was only there to keep them safe.

Sultan was naturally curious. He played with his toys immediately, and he didn’t hesitate to explore his surroundings. Cairo, on the other hand, felt intrigued but confused. He wasn’t so sure about sharing his home, let alone his dad, with the newcomer.

About a week later, Eric decided it was time to let Cairo and Sultan interact more closely. He slowly removed the hurdle between them and sat with them instead. To his surprise, the duo lowered their defenses and fell asleep together.

Over time, Cairo started poking Sultan with his nose, and he gave his sibling a few little kisses each time. At last, he started to accept the feline as part of the family. It didn’t seem possible at first but he kept an open mind and gave the cat a chance.

Around the third week, Sultan stoop up and started swatting at Cairo’s face. Surprisingly, the dog played back. They were like little boxers having sparring sessions but they never hurt each other. They simply had fun.

Cairo and Sultan have officially become best of friends. They love one another and they express it in every way they can. In fact, the dog now shares his bed with his cat brother, something that was beyond the bounds of all possibilities.

Watching Cairo and Sultan get along so great with one another brings Eric so much joy. He loves both of them, and he will never regret putting them in the same home.
