The DeLuca family from Tampa Bay, Florida wanted to get another dog after their German Shepherd Bailey died. Aside from the fact that their children, Molly and Joey, loved dogs, they wanted to adopt another one because their other dog became depressed.

After searching through several shelters, they decided on another German Shepherd named Haus.

Family

Haus became comfortable with the family almost immediately. It was as if he grew up with them. Their other dog, a nine-year-old golden retriever named Chloe, made an instant connection with him too. And he also became protective of the children.

Especially with their seven-year-old daughter, Molly.

Haus would follow Molly wherever she goes. He loves being around her and would act as his protector. And on one fateful day, two months after he was adopted, Haus proved to the family just how loyal and devoted he is to the family.

Most venomous snake species in North America

Molly was in the backyard picking up their dog’s toys. When suddenly, Haus, who was standing behind her, started growling. He then jumped in the air and yelped. He did this three times.

Molly’s grandmother, who was watching them that day, rushed out to see what was happening.

She then saw an eastern diamondback rattlesnake in front of Haus. It bit Haus three times. And when it saw that the dog was standing his ground, he slithered away. Molly’s grandma then took her and the dog inside the house.

She called Molly’s mom, Donya and they agreed to meet at a nearby vet clinic. There the pup received nine vials of antivenin to fight off the venom, which was then ravaging the dog’s body. He was also given a blood transfusion. Thankfully, the rescued dog was able to survive the attack.

The DeLuca family credits their new family addition for saving their daughter’s life. If it wasn’t for the brave dog, the snake would have bitten her.
