A rescue dog named Luke finally got his happily ever after!

The five-year-old shelter dog from Kent, England made headlines last February after he got stood up in his very own Valentine’s Day-themed adoption party. The canine, nicknamed ‘Heartbreaker,’ has stayed more than 200 days at the Battersea Brands Hatch shelter.

According to a release from the shelter, Luke’s search for love triggered many others who also felt shattered. This was magnified after his poorly-attended party. His story reached many parts of the world, making fans send tons of mail and well-wishes for him through Battersea Brands Hatch. They sent him toys, love notes, donations, and letters – many of which intended to take him home.

Among the many people who inquired about adopting Luke were Karl and Jill Kendrick of Derbyshire, England. Battersea Brands Hatch learned about the Kendricks and immediately found out that the couple would make the ideal future parents for Luke.

Luke moved out of Battersea after 225 days and lived with the Kendricks to test if their family was an appropriate match for him. It didn’t take long for Luke to adjust to life outside the kennels and fall in love with his foster family!

In a statement, Karl said it was a mystery to him how Luke could have stayed at Battersea for so long, knowing that anyone would have been lucky to have him. Since they brought him home, Luke has settled in quickly, proving that he was the perfect dog. According to Karl, they already love him so much and wouldn’t change him for the world.

Aside from this, the Kendrick patriarch expressed how lucky they felt for being the family that finally gave Luke his forever home. He has completed their family and swore that Luke would never spend Valentine’s Day alone again.

Similarly, Battersea was happy to announce that Luke already has his favorite nap areas in his new home and even has his own duvet!

Michelle Bevan, Battersea Brands Hatch’s center manager, said that while many of their other dogs were newsmakers, none of their animals captured as many hearts worldwide as Luke did. She said it wasn’t hard to determine why because Luke was an exceptional dog indeed. She said they were delighted that many people support rescue dogs like him and that he’s found the loving home he deserves.
