An employee of a small grocery store in Karditsa, Greece noticed a young puppy outside their store. She was certain no female street dog recently gave birth so someone must have dumped the poor animal in the area not too long ago. When she checked on her, she found the little one hiding underneath a parked van at the back of their property.

The worker contacted a few rescue groups and individuals but sadly, none of them had the space to take in a new rescue. She continued to search for help until, finally, she got in contact with Ermionni Giannakou. She told her about the puppy and she did not hesitate to help.

Ermionni is one of the co-founders of DAR Animal Rescue, the locale rescue and animal welfare group in town. She is also the lead rescuer, and often, she goes on missions on her own. She wastes no time when it comes to animal rescue.

When the rescuer arrived onsite, the worker showed her where she can find the puppy. And as expected, the little one was still hiding under the van, trembling in fear. She encouraged her to walk toward her, but she was too scared that she froze in fear.

After a few attempts, Ermionni was finally able to get the puppy out of her hiding spot. And as soon as she saw her up close, she knew she was very ill. She had to see the vet right away or it could be too late to save her.

From the rescue location, Ermionni drove straight to the vet, where the puppy underwent an extensive medical check-up. She suffered from diarrhea, high fevers, cough, dehydration, and an eye infection. She was definitely in a very poor state, and was so terrified of humans, too.

The puppy remained at the clinic for a few days. Once she was ready to leave, she wagged her happy tail and smiled at everyone in the clinic. And from that moment, Ermionni knew she would be fine.

Ermionni introduced the puppy to the rest of her rescued animals at the shelter. She was glad to see her make new friends. And from that point forward, she witnessed how she transformed from a sad and sickly little puppy to a confident and happy girl who is now ready for her new home.
