Many of us were adventurous as kids. If you grew up near a national park or a forest, there’s a chance that you and your friends would go out to explore the forest. However, this curiosity and sense of adventure have got three young boys from New Jersey in trouble.

The three boys were exploring a nearby forest on their bikes but ended up losing track of where they were and got lost. The kids were never heard from for several hours, which prompted their parents to alarm their entire neighborhood, including the police departments from two counties.

Together with the police, the entire community started searching for the missing boys. They needed to hurry since they only had a few more hours of daylight and searching at night is a lot more difficult and dangerous.

Thankfully, the police had a secret weapon that they can use to help look for the missing boys. The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department had a K-9 Bloodhound named Shiloh who’s trained to track scents. She was trained for exactly this particular situation and it was time to put her skills to the test.

After the officers obtained used bedsheets from the parents of the missing boys, they gave them to Shiloh. The scent from the bedsheets was to give her an idea of what she should be sniffing for. After Shiloh memorized the scent, she started sniffing for the boys in the woods.

Shiloh ended up leading the officers to a creek where they found shoes that came from the missing boys. After a mile of walking along the creek, Shiloh was able to locate the missing boys.

Thankfully, none of the boys were hurt. When the kids were found, they were already searching online for tips on surviving in the wilderness. However, thanks to Shiloh, they didn’t have to wait too long to get rescued.

Shiloh instantly became a local hero thanks to her nose. Her efforts helped the officers look for the missing children much faster. As a reward, her handler gave Shiloh a liverwurst treat, which she gladly accepted. Here’s a video featuring Shiloh’s valuable contribution to finding a group of missing kids in the forest.
