It was on September 23, 2020, when the world wide web came to know about the “How it started vs. How it’s going” meme.

Twitter user Vjillanelles posted photos of her relationship evolution to show everyone how happy she is with her partner.

She was surprised when the number of likes, comments, and shares the post received kept increasing as each day passed. People saw her post as inspiration and decided to do their own version of it. While most posts were also about relationship evolutions, a certain group of people used it as an opportunity to share the life stories of the dogs they adopted.

From temporary shelters to forever homes

Most of the stories talked about how neglected, abused, and abandoned the dogs once were. Most of the “How it started” photos were too painful for a lot of people. It meant the world to these Tweet peeps that the dogs looked a lot happier in the “How it ended ” photos.

The memes put the spotlight on the struggles that neglected animals go through. It also put emphasis on how much a dog’s life changes the moment they find forever homes. Those who caught wind of the posts showed their appreciation to those who welcomed the rescue dogs into their homes.

A serious matter

Matthew Bershadker, president of American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, was among those who came across the posts. He lauded those who adopted dogs and reminded everyone about the importance of helping vulnerable animals find loving homes.

There are still millions of dogs in vulnerable situations who are in dire need of help from kindhearted souls. The numbers can be overwhelming, but for Bershadker, the problem can be solved if people commit to working together. The more people cooperate, the lighter the load will be.
