Patrick is a nine-year-old Chihuahua that was sadly abandoned by his family. He was rescued from the streets of Dallas and taken to a local shelter.

The staff eventually found the canine’s owners, but they refused to take him back. They said that they couldn’t take care of him anymore.

The senior dog had an assortment of ailments, he was also blind and deaf. The poor pooch needed a lot of medical help, and the shelter could not provide it. They had taken in too many animals, and their resources were spread thin. Fortunately, a family was willing to adopt him and provide for his care.

The bad news is that they were in Baltimore, Maryland, more than 1,300 miles away.

Air transport

A nonprofit rescue organization called Dallas Pets Alive found a way to bring Patrick to his new family. They got in touch with Southwest Animal Transport Team (SWATT), a group of employees from Southwest Airlines who have made it their mission to help rescue animals in need of transportation. Not only do they volunteer their time, but they also use the flight benefits they get from their company. They quickly agreed to help the senior chihuahua.

A flight attendant named Jonathan volunteered to take on the task of bringing Patrick to his family. He used his free miles to personally escort the senior pooch on a three-hour flight from Dallas to Baltimore. When they arrived, the dog’s new family was eagerly awaiting them.

Thriving

Patrick’s new mom and dad gave him the best medical treatments available, and he is finally getting healthier. His vision and hearing could not be returned, but at least he feels loved. The chihuahua now has two humans that adore him completely and two dog siblings to play with.

Thanks to the love and great generosity of many good people, Patrick is living a happy life and will surely continue to do so in his golden years.
