The Bahamas recently experienced nature’s rage via hurricane Dorian. The category five storm brought about immense fear and destruction. Damaged houses have reached 13,000, while at least five humans were killed due to the natural calamity.

While most talks about the storm centered around its effects on humans, it’s worth noting that other victims exist too. Take, for instance, stray animals, such as dogs. These creatures get traumatized over hurricanes, too, given their hyper senses.

Thankfully for the stray dogs of Nassau, Bahamas, they were not left to fend for themselves throughout the course of hurricane Dorian. A good samaritan named Chella Phillips came to their rescue. Chella is the sole proponent of The Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, Bahamas, a Facebook initiative that seeks to safeguard stray dogs in the Carribean country.

Chella is not directly affiliated with any human society groups or rescue organizations. Her initiatives are purely motivated by her love of dogs. She believes that all pooches deserve a safe home, most especially in the event of a calamitous storm.

During the course of hurricane Dorian, Chella’s house was teeming with pooches in various shapes and sizes. They were all strays. Chella sheltered at least 97 dogs while the storm raged outside, and 79 of those pooches favored her bedroom.

Despite her bedroom being inundated with dogs, not one of her visitors attempted to jump in on Chella’s bed. This made Chella quite happy and appreciative of the respect her rescued dogs had afforded her and her personal space. It was enough to temper the unavoidable fact that the house suddenly had an abundance of poop and piss.

Chella’s history of rescuing stray dogs is quite impressive. Her efforts extend beyond days of disasters. Since her vocation began, she has rescued around 1,000 strays from the streets of Nassau.

These rescue dogs receive medical attention courtesy of the funds donated to Chella’s one-woman cause. Donations are always welcome.
