When things go rough, people frequently want to hear encouraging words to remind them to never give up. This is most likely what a shelter staff told this particular dog, which we will feature today. The dog has been at the shelter for a long time, but he never gave up hope that one day he would be adopted.

Higgins, a senior dog, spent years in an animal shelter. For nearly six years, he had been accustomed to sleeping in a kennel at the Humane Society of Preble County in Ohio.

The German Shepherd has now been adopted and living with his new family for the rest of his life.

Higgins was born in the shelter in 2012, and someone quickly expressed interest in adopting him. Unfortunately, on September 23, 2012, his owner returned him. After that, no one else wanted to adopt him.

The dog was adopted into a new family after six years. He was, however, confined on chains and solely lived in a dog house. Even beyond the shelter, Higgins struggled to find true contentment.

After a year, a stranger paid a visit to the Preble County Humane Society. Someone was walking around with a stray dog that was wandering the streets. It was Higgins.

After a few months, no one stepped forward to adopt the dog again. Higgin’s tale was shared on Facebook by the Humane Society in the hopes that he would be adopted.

Finally, a man named Brendon Reed contacted the shelter and expressed his intention to adopt Higgins. Everyone was taken aback, but they were all ecstatic for Higgins. Finally, someone made the decision to take him home.

Reed had wanted to adopt Higgins ever since he read the shelter’s Facebook post about the dog. He completed the proper paperwork, and he drove Higgins home.

Higgins is currently having the time of his life with his new father. He appears to be overjoyed now that he has found his lifelong partner, someone who will love and care for him for the rest of his life.
