Animal control officers reminded the public to always have their pets on a leash. This is after they responded to a distress call from a concerned citizen about a dog caught in a muddy swamp at a park in Kingman and Heritage Islands.

Ryan Jesien, an animal control inspector, together with the Humane Rescue Alliance, took action and immediately drove to the location. When they arrived, they didn’t waste any time and quickly searched the whole place.

After some time, they finally spotted the senior dog. At that moment, the trapped dog looked too weak to get out on her own. Ryan then stepped in and walked through the mud to rescue the dog. Jesien admitted that, apart from the waist-deep mud, it was also quite cold.

Save on time

Thus, it took him a few attempts to get the dog out of the mud. They brought her along and temporarily took her in. It was fortunate that someone noticed the canine and cared enough to call for help. Thankfully, the dispatch team arrived on time.

It was pure luck that they didn’t arrive a minute late, or else things might’ve turned out differently. Officials soon discovered the dog’s name was Cutie Pie, and after a while, they also learned the owner’s contact information. They contacted the owner as a part of the reclaiming procedure and said that they intended to return the dog after thoroughly investigating the incident. It was also recently that the Humane Rescue Alliance collaborated with Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region, the Department of Energy and Environment, and Friends of Kingman and Heritage Islands to launch the Bark Rangers program.

It’s a program that encourages people and their pets to use parks responsibly. The Friends of Kingman and Heritage Islands also urge their residents to take the “Paw Pledge” and to make sure that their pets wear leashes all the time. Pet owners should be responsible enough to keep their dogs safe. Jesien also said that the pets are at their safest when they’re on leashes and under the supervision of their owners.
