Abigail the rescue dog has a wonderful and inspiring story to tell.

Abigail was a former bait dog who experienced abuse and trauma from her former handlers and other dogs. She was at her worst when rescuers saw her. She needed extensive and immediate medical care.

Abigail was fostered for six months before she was adopted by Megan and Jason Steinke.

Abigail lost an ear from being a bait dog, but despite the painful past, her spirit wasn’t broken. She was known for wearing beautiful and fashionable dog headbands, bonnets, and bows to show the world that despite losing an ear, she could still look gorgeous inside and out. She was the 2019 American Hero Dog Awardee under the Emerging Hero category.

Abigail serves as a therapy dog together with her dog sibling Tala. They both share their life story and show their resilience to the kids living in Immokalee, Florida after Hurricane Irma devastated their homes.

The children were gathered at First Assembly Church of God for a short program. The children learned about Abigail’s story from being a bait dog to a therapy dog. They also learned about the dangers of dogfighting. The children were also taught how to properly love and train dogs.

After the program, Abigail and Tala gave toys and brought smiles as these victims were trying to pick up their lives after the natural disaster.

Abigail and Tala’s visit to Immokalee, Florida was so successful that their handlers were planning to make another visit for a Christmas drive!

At present, Abigail continues to spread love and happiness through her Facebook page, Bonnets for Abigail. Her Facebook page is full of messages about hope, forgiveness, and survival.

Thank you for your life and service, Abigail! Continue to spread smiles and positivity to others! You’re one amazing dog!
