A kind-hearted resident of a community called Hope For Paws, a not-for-profit rescue team in LA. He mentioned that he came across a stray Chihuahua living on his street. He said that he fed and looked after it for a week, but the dog avoided human contact so he thought it best to ask for help.

Rescuers JoAnn Wiltz and Katie McKittrick drove to the neighborhood to rescue the animal. They immediately saw the dog under the shade of a tree on the sidewalk. They also saw an old box that someone left for the dog to sleep in.

The women worked on getting the dog’s trust by offering it food. The animal looked wary and wanted to run away, but fortunately, the bits of cheeseburger worked to prevent it from escaping. However, it still did not let either JoAnn or Katie get too close.

Given how skittish the dog was, JoAnn thought of using a gentle snare to secure it. She laid the snare on the ground and put a trail of food leading to it. She then patiently waited for the right opportunity to catch the animal.

Once the dog went for the food in the middle of the snare, JoAnn expertly looped it in. The animal struggled for a little bit, but the rescuers made an effort to calm it down. In no time, JoAnn succeeded in carrying the Chihuahua off the street.

The kind-hearted resident who fed the dog told the women that he named the female Chihuahua Frijoles. The rescuers thanked the resident and brought Frijoles to their vehicle. They then drove back to the CARES veterinary facility where they’d get Frijoles started on her new life.

The doctors at CARES, fortunately, confirmed that the Chihuahua is in good health. JoAnn and Katie then gave Frijoles a much-needed bath. Afterward, they made sure the dog is comfortable and adapting to its new safe environment.

Frijoles continued her new beginning with LA Animal Rescue as a foster. Her story came full circle as her foster family found her a loving forever home. From living in a box on the street, Frijoles now happily lives with her new fur parents.
