Emma, a black and white canine adopted by Romanian animal rescue organization Howl of a Dog, was in bad shape when the rescue group first encountered her. The dog was malnourished and suffering from mange. She also walked with a limp.

Nobody knew what happened to Emma, but the rescuers believed that she lived on the streets for a while before being hit by a car. She was later caught by animal control and taken to a public pound.

The pound, on the other hand, appeared to be no better than the streets. Emma was ignored there for a long time. Even if she was in desperate need of medical help, she didn’t get it. Fortunately, Howl of a Dog entered the canine’s life.

Emma’s upper left femur was severely damaged as seen on an x-ray performed by a veterinarian to see the source of her limp.

Surgery was required, but she wasn’t in the best of health at that time. Emma needed to become better first, so the rescuers made sure she was well-fed and received regular medical baths to treat her skin issue.

Emma was looking much better by the time she was ready for her operation. She had packed on weight and was no longer covered in sores.

The dog was still not using her previously wounded limb a few weeks after the surgery on her left femur. Emma’s adoptive mother had to give it mild exercises to keep the muscles from atrophying.

Emma eventually began running on the leg, but she was wary of placing weight on it. But it was the way she broke out of her shell and blossomed into a happy dog that made her rescuers happy.

Emma moved to her forever home in France a few months later. The sweet puppy enjoys making friends with other animals, so it’s no surprise that she and her fur mom Auriane’s dog, Eva, got along well.
