Two Bronx cops Norkiss Andino and Kathy Salem, were informed about a shivering Shih Tzu mix tied in a school-yard for quite some time.

Both Norkiss and Kathy did not waste any time to reach the spot where the poor pooch was reported to be present. When the cops reached there, they saw an 11-pound mangy and matted dog with noticeably big and expressive eyes.

Norkiss had always been a dog person, and she immediately bonded with the pooch. Norkiss made the dog comfortable by petting him and then got him on the police van and took him to the local Animal Care Centre.

Before leaving, Norkiss dropped off her number at the desk of the Animal Care Centre and told the staff there that if no one comes for the dog, then she is interested in adopting the pooch.

A few weeks later, Norkiss had just got home from work when she received a phone call from the center asking her if she still wanted the dog. Norkiss was over the moon to hear that the dog was available for adoption, and she immediately said yes.

The happy Bronx cop did not even change her uniform and hurried towards her car and drove to the center straightaway. The Shih Tzu had been given the name Blitzen. Norkiss picked him up, hugged him, and drove back home with the Shih Tzu to surprise her two daughters with an early Christmas gift.

The girls were overjoyed to see the dog. Norkiss already owned a Teacup Yorkie named Zoe that she had rescued from underneath a car last year. Blitzen seemed to be most interested in playing with Zoe.

The girls have now renamed the Shih Tzu to Prince because they think the dog enjoys royal status in the house.

Norkiss plans to open an animal rescue shelter after her retirement from NYPD.
