For several weeks, the echoing sound of a dog’s bark was heard in a Cincinnati, Ohio neighborhood. Two concerned residents heard the distraught cries so they decided to check and investigate. They searched for the property owner and was granted access provided they will refill the water bowl of the pup he left inside.
As the men entered the basement, the sight broke their hearts. Crouching on the chilly cement floor laid Gracie, a two-year-old bulldog. After seeing her rescuer, she immediately ran to them and showered them with wet kisses. Surely, Gracie has been starved of affection.
“Her paws are caked in feces. Her voice is hoarse from endless barking,” wrote Gracie’s rescuers on Facebook. “She’s absolutely desperate for attention and food. She’s fed by having a bag of food dumped on her every now and then. But she’s so sweet. Please, can any dog rescue take her?”
As soon as Queen City Bulldog Rescue saw the social media post, they wasted no time and hurried to the abandoned house and freed the animal. Allegedly, Gracie was used for breeding. But after a while, she stopped getting pregnant and has become unprofitable for her owner. For $200, Gracie’s owner agreed to release her.
Despite the poor state she had to be in, Gracie proved to be the sweetest little girl that she is. She loved all her rescuers and everybody that she meets almost immediately. And she left the old rotting house, Gracie felt the cool breeze of the fresh air for the first time. “She rolled on the grass and SMILED,” said QCBR Founder Chelsea Muenzer.
After unimaginable neglect, Gracie is now receiving the veterinary care she needs for her skin infections. And once she’s ready, she will undergo surgery and be spayed. But so far, the sweet pup is on a great shape.
Gracie’s foster family is more than dedicated to helping her completely forget her dark past. They pamper her with soft cozy blankets, bubble baths, and delicious treats. But more than that, they shower her with love that she truly deserves. And as it seems, Gracie may have already found the family to spend the rest of her life with.
