Royce was one of the strays found in the streets of Miami, Florida. A local shelter took him in, and he was wounded and bruised the first time he was found.
Shortly after his arrival, he was adopted, but not too long after that, he was returned. Later, Royce was again adopted, but like the first, he was returned.
Being returned gave the shelter the impression that Royce might be ‘unadoptable’ – and it won’t take long before the shelter puts him down.

In July 2017, one kindhearted volunteer went on Facebook and published a post concerning Royce and his dilemma, hoping that at least one individual would come across the post and help the dog.

Fortunately, the post made its way to David Sebba’s newsfeed. At that moment, he decided to take Royce home.
He said, “His natural smile struck me; it’s hard to explain. I knew his chances of getting out again were slim as a returned dog, so I added him to our family.”
But it wasn’t that simple. Royce was in Miami, and Sebba was in Orlando. Regardless, Sebba had an unwavering desire to take the puppy in. He contacted the shelter and requested that Royce be placed on hold.

Sebba drove a distance of over 200 miles to meet his new furbaby.
“I remembered being worried I wouldn’t make it before they closed,” he said. Thankfully, he made it in time.

That same day, Royce’s adoption was made official. On a long drive in his new furdad’s car, Royce was excited and anxious at the same time. After more than one failed adoption, he isn’t sure where exactly he is being taken.
While Sebba hasn’t discussed adopting Royce with his wife, she is instantly in love with him.

Everything has been great since Royce came home to Orlando, except for one thing—Sebba had cats and didn’t know how to be with them. Fearful that Royce might unintentionally hurt their cats, Sebba devised a solution.
His mother was living alone, so he thought Royce would make the best companion, and he was right.
Royce bonded with his new fur mom and developed an incredible relationship. While Royce is still an energetic dog, nothing makes him happier than curling up and cuddling with his mom.
