Senior dogs living in an animal shelter have a low chance of getting adopted. This is because most dog adopters prefer puppies. For them, older dogs have more requirements and needs, therefore they would rather get a puppy. However, this way of thinking is not something that all dog adopters share.

Couple Beth and Michael Clark are among the rare individuals who recognize older dogs as unique animals. While the couple’s elder pets are already in their final years, they still bring their family much joy each and every day.

This is the reason why Beth and Michael decided to adopt Rocky. Rocky was 17 years old when he was adopted from Friends of Anne Arundel County Animal Care & Control. Beth was the one who took pity on the dog.

Beth claimed that she told her husband that they adopt the dog. She also said that she could not tolerate the dog spending his remaining years in a shelter. This is why they adopted the dog and gave it a permanent home. Beth was also expecting her first child when they adopted Rocky.

The woman was aware that Rocky was already counting down his remaining days, but she told the dog to wait until the birth of his baby sister. Beth believed Rocky was aware of her request and would do it.

Beth and Michael were no longer surprised by the dog’s failing health. This is because the dog must go back and forth to the veterinarian to get the needed treatment. However, the dog survived and hang on until Beth gave birth to Joline.

When the dog saw his infant sister for the very first time, he sniffed and licked her joyfully. And soon enough, the dog passed away. This might be a sad thing for the family but Beth is also grateful because the animal granted her request.
