Since the start of the pandemic, plenty of people have been chipping in to help those in the front lines. This adorable therapy Rottweiler from Baltimore, Maryland is no exception. However, instead of donating PPEs and medical supplies, the pup and her fur mom are giving out “care packages,” and they’re going viral for it.
Loki and her fur mom, Caroline Benzel, are frequent visitors at the Baltimore-based University of Maryland School of Medicine even before the pandemic. You see, Caroline goes to the same university as a second-year medical student. And together with Loki, she would often visit the hospital staffers and residents for some cheering up.
However, when the coronavirus threat was escalated into a health emergency, Caroline had to be removed from the front lines since she was only a student. This didn’t stop her from offering her help to her friends at the hospital, though. She would regularly schedule Loki for some FaceTime therapy sessions with the medical personnel.
But even with this virtual help, Caroline felt that she could do more. That was when she came up with a bright idea.
She realized that most of the hospital staffers suffer from skin irritations and rashes due to the continuous use of face masks and gloves. So to ease the physical toll on them, Caroline and Loki began raising funds for a “care package,” consisting of moisturizers, chapstick, baby powder, and boxes of tea, among others.
Thankfully, in a matter of weeks, the duo had managed to secure a total of 1,400 packages, which they will distribute to their first batch of hospital recipients. Caroline is hoping to raise more boxes in the coming weeks with the help of Loki’s social media followers.
But aside from helping the hospitals in their area, the duo has also raised awareness for the other states. With their idea, several people in North Carolina and New Jersey are already doing the same. Look at the adorable Loki and her thoughtful care packages here.
