Todd, the golden retriever dog, saw the snake ready to strike a fatal blow on his owner, so he did not think twice to hop in to save her. Paula Godwin from Anthem, Arizona, narrated that she took an early morning hike with her loyal four-legged companion when the incident took place. She told that she nearly stepped into a concealed rattlesnake that Friday when Todd suddenly stepped in to save her.

The 6-month-old pup bravely leaped between Paula and the snake, resulting in him getting bitten on the snout instead. Paula felt both grateful and horrified as the serpent sank its venomous fangs into Todd. She knew the snake surely would have struck her in the leg if it wasn’t for the canine.

The savior canine cried in pain after the bite, prompting Paula to rush him into a local Anthem pet hospital to get anti-venom treatment. Paula’s other pet dog named Copper also came along to give support to Todd. The vet gave Todd the green light to rest and recover at home after receiving the needed shots.

The thankful owner shared the story on Facebook, along with pictures of the swollen features of Todd. The story drew more than 700,000 reactions and comments online, turning Todd into a local celebrity in the city of Anthem. The readers and online community rallied behind the hero dog’s fast recovery and offered affectionate wishes of support as Paula assured them of his on-track recovery via her posts.

The Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team gave recognition to the hero pup during that Sunday’s pre-game event. The said event became part of the “Heroes Week” where Todd received a walk on the field before the first pitch. The D-backs took a moment to honor the gallant animal before facing the San Diego Padres in an intense match-up.
